I thought I was selling bath products — turns out that was only part of it
Two weekends ago, I attended the CreateHers conference here in Florida. I went expecting to learn about marketing, business, growth—all the things you're supposed to be thinking about when you're building a brand.
Instead, I came home thinking about why I started Recoverie in the first place.
For a long time, when someone asked what Recoverie was, I had plenty of answers:
Bath and shower products. Essential oils. Thoughtfully chosen ingredients. Made by hand. No synthetic fragrance, dyes or glitter.
All true.
But none of them quite explained why Recoverie exists.
This past week, something finally clicked.
Recoverie creates bath and shower products designed to turn everyday bathing into a ritual for recovery.
Physical recovery. Mental recovery. Emotional recovery. Or sometimes simply recovering from a day that asked a lot of you.
The products matter. I care deeply about how they're formulated, how they feel on your skin, how they smell, and how you feel when you use them. Every Recoverie ritual is made by hand with essential oils and thoughtfully chosen ingredients—but the products themselves are only part of it.
They're also a way of marking a transition.
From doing to done.
From taking care of everything else to taking a little care of yourself.
From one more thing to enough for today.
And underneath all of it is a belief that I think has been part of Recoverie from the beginning, even before I knew exactly how to say it:
Rest doesn't have to be earned.
You don't have to finish the list first. You don't need a particularly difficult day to justify it. And recovery doesn't need to be productive to be worthwhile.
Sometimes it's a long bath.
Sometimes it's ten minutes in the shower.
Sometimes it's sitting down and deciding you're simply done for the day.
I'm still figuring out what it means to build a business around that belief. But lately I've realized that part of building Recoverie is allowing more of myself into it—and sharing more about the why, not just the things I make.
So that's what I'm going to do here.
I'll share more about the rituals we're creating, what I'm learning along the way, and maybe a reminder every now and then that you've probably done enough.
Welcome. I'm so glad you're here.
